This is the website concerning the research on the arText system, carried out at the\u00a0Universidad Nacional de Educaci\u00f3n a Distancia (UNED)<\/a>.\u00a0Our research is part of an\u00a0interdisciplinary<\/strong>\u00a0context that brings together two major areas: linguistics (the analysis of specialized discourse) and computer science (Natural Language Processing [NLP]). It has an impact on science, but also on Spanish society, since the system we have developed is\u00a0available to the public free of charge<\/strong>\u00a0so that any\u00a0person can use it.<\/p>\n

WHAT IS ARTEXT?<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n

The arText system is the first assisted text editor<\/strong> for Spanish and Catalan that helps to write textual genres in specialized fields and texts in plain language. It includes two tools:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

It helps to write\u00a0textual genres in specialized fields<\/strong>\u00a0such as Public Administration, medicine, tourism or the academic field.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

It helps to write texts in\u00a0plain language<\/strong>. Currently, it helps Public Administration staff to write documents in plain language addressed to the general public.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Both tools can be used through an online text editor<\/strong>. The editor is divided into three modules<\/strong>, which help to:<\/p>\n

  1. Structure the document.<\/li>\n
  2. Format and spell-check it.<\/li>\n
  3. Check the suitability of the text, by giving specific linguistic recommendations for the selected textual genre or related to plain language. Some of these recommendations concern, for example, long sentences and paragraphs, acronyms, word repetition, discourse connectors, verb forms and subjective lexical units.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
