Plain language and natural language processing in legal-administrative texts in English: the European Commission as a case study (EUPlainTech) (PID2022-143092NB-I00)
Research project developed at Departamento de Filologías Extranjeras y sus Lingüísticas from the Facultad de Filología in Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), in the framework of the ACTUALing research group, with the collaboration of the IULATERM group.

This project has been funded by the 2022 call «Proyectos de Generación de Conocimiento»in the frame of the Programa Estatal para Impulsar la Investigación Científico-Técnica y su Transferencia, of the Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica de Innovación 2021-2023.
Budget: 87.500 euros.
AIMS AND METHODOLOGY
This project has three general objectives, as indicated below:
GENERAL OBJETIVE 1. To investigate the possibilities that natural language processing (NLP) offers to automatically detect linguistic phenomena that interfere with plain language writing in legal-administrative texts in English.
GENERAL OBJETIVE 2. To analyze and systematize the prototypical linguistic features of some specific textual genres generated in the field of the European Commission (EC).
GENERAL OBJETIVE 3. To develop a technological tool to improve written communication between the European Union (EU) and citizens.
